Mahia

Mahia is the national spirit of Morocco—a country where alcohol consumption is restricted due to Islamic principles. It is a delicious fruit brandy made from figs and aniseed. For centuries, it was carefully distilled by Morocco's Jewish population, and it was a central part of their celebrations and religious rituals. Translated from Arabic, mahia means "water of life".

Since the 1900s, the Nahmias family has been known for their exceptional family recipe. Nahmias et Fils is the only distillery in the US that produces mahia locally. They are proud to continue this cultural tradition and share this sacred spirit with the rest of the world.

Packaging

The client came to us for a bottle design update. They wanted to save money on production costs and improve the bottle's ability to stand out on-shelf.

This colorful redesign pays homage to the rich Moroccan textiles and geometric tilework that the country is known for. We retired the expensive, direct-to-bottle print method and moved towards cost-effective, adhesive labels.

Website

To support the packaging update, we rolled out a microsite. It provided a lightweight digital experience that included a store locator tool, newsletter signup, and cocktail recipes.
